When GoDaddy.com's ad came on during the SuperBowl, my wife turned to me and asked, "Isn't that the company you use?"

"Unfortunately," I replied.

I've purposefully waited to talk about this.  I'm still not sure exactly what to say, other than I'm extremely disappointed.  Betrayal might be a better word to use.  Because of Bob Parson, GoDaddy.com's owner, and his association with QuickVerse (Bob started Parson's Technology), I felt confident I'd been dealing with a company that would have the utmost integrity.  Apparently, I was wrong.

GoDaddy.com has received a lot of publicity over this, so I suppose they feel like their ad was an enormous success.  To the rest of the world, it may seem like this was a brilliant marketing strategy.  I think it's a disgrace.

My apologies to those of you who have registered domains at GoDaddy.com based on my recommendation.

why does being a christian seem to consist only of moaning and complaining about anything that doesnt fit into your narrow world view? Why is it that I only hear about religion when it has blown something up or wants something banned?

You do a dis-service to the youth of today, and to the general population by climbing onto your soapbox everytime anybody wants to have some fun, because it is not going to encourage anybody to support your cause, or your god. just realise there are more ideas in the world than yours, and stop trying to censor everything, cos buddy, one day we might come for your little publication and start snip snipping out some commandments or anything we dont like the look of.

Thanks, Josh. I got an email from Yahoo! a couple of days ago about the $4.98 deal. My biggest issue with Yahoo! Domains is that you're forced to use their DNS servers.

I'll have to give the other companies a close look.

It is definitely a sleazy ad campaign. I was shocked at the follow up ads to the superbowl. I'm sure that they were meant to be funny, but they just ended up being dumb. I did some research and found a few other well-respected cheap name registrars:

www.namecheap.com

www.registerfly.com

Name registrations from these are less than $10/year. This information came from www.webhostingtalk.com. I don't know enough about these companies to know about their philosophy, but they do get a lot of positive remarks on the forums.

I too was shocked when I saw that ad. It made me feel terrible that I use them as well. I've used them to register 5 domain names and have also recommended them because they were the best price and had some good domain management features. But I have to say, I'll be thinking twice about using them again. I just thought that ad was very careless, and pointless.

Surely we're not the only ones that feel this way, so they could be losing quite a bit of business over this.
