Frederico released the "Final Candidate" of FCKeditor 2.0 today.  Self-titled "the text editor for the Internet," it is a robust and feature-rich WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) browser-based HTML editor.  FCKeditor, which is named after its creator, Frederico Caldeira Knabben, is an open source project (meaning it's free and the full source code is available), supports the most popular browsers, and integrates with ASP.NET, ASP, PHP, Perl, Java and ColdFusion.

I've been using FCKeditor in my personal ASP.NET projects for the last few months, and it has proved to be a great tool.  It's as every bit as good as some of the commercial HTML editor components I have used.  Highly recommended.

Hi Irfan,

Any web hosting company that supports ASP.NET will allow you to use an ASP.NET component such as FCKeditor. One of the great benefits of using ASP.NET controls is that they don't require registration on a server like the older ASP components (which typically depended on ActiveX).

I have a dedicated server, so I do my own hosting. As a matter of fact, I offer free web ASP.NET hosting. Just click on the Web Hosting link on the menu above to learn more.

Sorry, but I don't currently have a sample or open-source project that uses FCKeditor that I could share. That's a great idea, though.

Hi David,

Who are you using to host your ASP.NET site. I want to do some ASP.NET programming and get a host who will allow me to install components like the FCKeditor. By the way could you post a link to your project with the HTML editor.

I have used FreeTextBox for the last couple of years across several projects. It has always been a great component. The main interface for FCKeditor is not as pretty, but the I think the pop-up interfaces for creating links, browsing the server for assets, or to insert an image are much better in FCKeditor.

Hi David,

Have you used Free Text Box? If you have, I'd be interested on any comments you have on how FCKEditor compares with FTB? The seem to be quite a few people on the community server forums talking about ripping out FTB and replacing it with FCK.
